​​​​​Phasing Plan for the Rehabilitation of New York Avenue Bridge NE

The project is anticipated to be completed by the Sep of 2013.  To achieve this date the following traffic phases will be in effect during the project (approximate durations are shown in parentheses): 
 
Phase II:  (~11 months)
  • Westbound lanes will be closed for reconstruction of the north portion of the bridge. 
    • Two lanes will be maintained in both directions.
    • Alternate Routes are available.

    Phase III:​  (~10 months) - CURRENT PHASE

  • Westbound lanes will open and eastbound lanes will be closed for reconstruction of the south portion of the bridge.
    • Two lanes will be maintained in both directions.

    Phase IV:  (~1 month)

    • Construction of north sidewalk.
    • Milling/paving operations and installation of bridge art work.
    • Two lanes will be maintained westbound.
    • Three lanes will be maintained eastbound.

    Final Traffic Pattern: (anticipated by Sep of 2013)

    • Three traffic lanes maintained in each direction with pedestrian sidewalks and bridge median.

    Important Note for Pedestrians!

    • Pedestrians are strictly prohibited from crossing the bridge during all phases of construction.
    • Pedestrians are required to follow the pedestrian detour along 4th Street NE as shown below:
